Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission(TNPSC)

TNPSC-A Premier Institution to Recruit State Government Servants.

Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC):

The Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC) is an independent constitutional body. The Governor of Tamil Nadu appoints the Members of this Commission, and they can be removed only by the President of India. As per the Constitution of India. It is free from political and executive influences. The TNPSC recruits almost all Tamil Nadu State Government servants. Political parties, Ministers, and Senior Government officials do not have any power to control either the Commission, its Members, or even the commission’s staff. So, the general false belief in the minds of youngsters that the ruling party or the Ministers can influence the Commission is wrong. The selection process of this commission is transparent.

A special act was formed by the Madras Public Service Commission in 1920, ensuring that no influence could affect the
written examination results or oral interview. Later, it became a Constitutional body as per the Constitution of India. People have called it the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission since 1970. Every state has a similar commission with the prefix of that state name.

Role of TNPSC:

Besides the recruitment for government departments, TNPSC also conducts:

  • Departmental tests.
  • Language Test for All India Service Officers.
  • Also conducts exams for Rashtriya Indian Military College at Dehradun under the Ministry of Defense.

The Department Promotion Committee has to confirm many promotions in government departments (i.e. DPC) of the TNPSC. The Deputy Collectors, DSPs, etc, and all the civil servants coming on promotions must be appointed by the TNPSC, which is called “Appointment on Promotion”. In a nutshell, TNPSC’s role is to appoint government employees and promotion is extensive.

Organization of TNPSC:
  • TNPSC has a Controller of Examination (CE) and a Secretary. Both are IAS officers, and they work as per the directions of the commission.
  • The Secretary looks after administrative matters, whereas the controller of examination is fully responsible for organizing, evaluating, and announcing the results of Written examinations.
