Empowering OBCs Through Legal Action, Street Struggles, and Public Awareness

In a country where social justice is often spoken about but rarely acted upon, the Society for the Rights of Backward Communities (SFRBC) / OBC Rights stands out as a powerful, non-political movement fighting for the real upliftment of Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

Founded in December 2020 in Coimbatore, SFRBC is not just another organization — it’s a structured, registered, and rights-driven movement, guided by Former Senior Government Officials, Public Service Commission Members, vice-chancellors, and legal experts. The founder, Mr. V. Rathna Sabapathy, a former Superintendent of Police and a member of the TNPSC, is a legal and management expert with a deep understanding of the systemic challenges faced by OBC communities.

What Makes SFRBC Different?

Unlike many groups that focus only on street protests or legal cases, SFRBC blends legal expertise, grassroots action, and public awareness. It has never aligned with any political party, choosing instead to stay truly independent — a rare quality in today’s landscape.

Vision and Mission

SFRBC’s core goal is simple but powerful:
To restore the constitutional and statutory rights of OBC youth, students, women, and farmers.

To ensure true and formidable development of the aforesaid sections.

Here’s how they’re doing it:

  • Ensuring Priority in Education and Jobs – Fighting for priority in admissions, scholarships, and support for OBC students in public institutions and jobs.
  • Battling Discrimination – Challenging biased selection practices in elite institutions that silently exclude OBC candidates.
  • Legal Fights – Taking key issues to the High Courts and Supreme Court, including crucial subjects such as to caste census, misuse of SC/ST (PoA) Act, and denial of scholarships.
  • Farmer Welfare – Demanding MGNREGS for the benefit of farmers, better support prices for crops, and research to fight crop pests.
  • Protecting OBC Women and Girls – from threats, exploitation, and harmful activities by anti-social elements
  • Access to Education Loans – Helping students secure loans without interest or nominal interest to pursue higher education.
  •  Pushing for Caste Census – Urging governments to conduct detailed caste surveys to ensure fair representation of all OBC subgroups.
Real Work. Real Results.

Since its inception, SFRBC/OBC Rights has made a real difference across Tamil Nadu and beyond:

  • Permanent Office & Helpline – With full-time staff providing moral and legal assistance to OBC people.
  • Educational Guidance – Reached OBC students in nearly 14+ districts with information and support on competitive exams.
  • Digital Support – Online notes, mock tests for TNPSC aspirants, and guidance through its website www.obcrights.org – now used by over 15,000 visitors every month.
  • Direct Help – Scholarships for orphans, education loans for 100+ students, and field relief during disasters like the Tirunelveli–Tuticorin floods.
  • Community Centers – “OBC People Centers” in Erode, Coimbatore, and Sathyamangalam offer 360-degree help to rural people.
  • Mobile Help Desk Van – Soon to launch, this van will travel to remote villages offering on-the-spot support to youth, farmers, and the underprivileged.

Why We Stand Out as Unique:

Many OBC families, especially in rural areas, remain unaware of the rights they deserve in education, employment, and welfare schemes. Society for the Rights of Backward Communities is changing that. By combining courtroom advocacy with on-ground action and digital tools, it’s giving voice and visibility to communities that have been ignored for too long.

Since its start in December 2020, it has actively run awareness programs both online and offline, always staying independent and focused only on education, job, social security, etc.

The Road Ahead

True empowerment doesn’t come from token gestures — it comes from earnest efforts, structured support, fearless advocacy, and mass awareness. The Society for the Rights of Backward Communities (SFRBC) / OBC Rights is not waiting for someone else to fix the system. It is doing the hard work — legally, socially, and culturally — to ensure that every OBC youth, student, woman, and farmer gets a fair shot at opportunity and dignity.

The time for talk is over — real change needs real work. Stand with SFRBC for true OBC justice….
