Objectives Of The Award
This award is meant for students who have scored top marks in their SSLC (10th Standard) examinations. It aims to motivate students from minority communities to continue their education in Higher Secondary schools by offering financial support.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible for the Thanthai Periyar Memorial Award, students must:
- Be a resident of Tamil Nadu.
- Belong to a minority community.
- Have scored the highest marks in the SSLC public examination within their district.
- Be among the top two boys and two girls from each district. (The highest SSLC marks in that district secure the selection of 2 boys and 2 girls per district).
What Do Students Receive?
Students selected for the award receive a scholarship of ₹3,000 per year for three years, helping them to continue their education in classes 11 and 12.

How to Apply?
The District Office of the Department of Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare handles the application process.
Students do not have to apply directly. Schools usually forward the list of top scorers to the department.
