The Prime Ministers Fellowship for Doctoral Research scheme, initiated by the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, aims to foster closer collaboration between academia and industry. It seeks to empower promising young scholars to undertake research projects that are aligned with industrial needs, thereby promoting innovation and economic growth. This initiative provides scholars with access to state-of-the-art facilities and expertise, enabling them to contribute significantly to technological advancements and generate tangible outcomes such as patents, new products, and processes.
Aim of this fellowship:
- Foster enthusiasm and motivation among promising young Indian Ph.D. researchers to pursue industry-relevant research across the Science,
Technology, Engineering, Agriculture, and Medicine sectors. - Facilitate establishing strong partnerships between academia and industry to advance Research and Development (R&D) initiatives.
- Drive research efforts towards addressing industry-specific challenges and priorities, thereby enhancing the relevance and impact of academic research.
- Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange between academia and industry to promote innovation and technological advancements.
- Provide opportunities for PhD scholars to gain practical experience and access industry resources, fostering a deeper understanding of
real-world applications and industry requirements.
Eligibility for the The Prime Ministers Fellowship :
- Eligible applicants must hold Indian citizenship.
- Full-time enrollment in a Ph.D. program is a requirement for applicants. scholars in a recognized Indian university, institute, or research laboratory.
- The applicant’s Ph.D. registration should not exceed 14 months from the date of application submission, considering the earlier the date of PhD admission/registration.
- A valid industry partner who is willing to provide financial support for the research project and offer guidance and mentorship to the scholar must be identified.
- The proposed research topic, agreed upon by both the applicant and the supporting company, should demonstrate innovation, practical relevance, and potential industrial applications.
- Successful applicants are expected to collaborate with or work within the supporting company as needed throughout the project duration.
- Selected scholars are not permitted to receive any other fellowship concurrently after selecting for The Prime Ministers Fellowship for Doctoral Research scheme.
Application Methods for this fellowship:
1. Begin by registering as a student via the designated The Prime Ministers Fellowship portal, either www.primeministerfellowshipscheme.in or www.serbficci-iirrada.in.
2. Prepare the application form following the provided guidelines and submit it online through the respective website: www.primeministerfellowshipscheme.in (for CII coordinating industry chambers) or www.serbficci-iirrada.in (for FICCI coordinating industry chambers).
3. Download the Call for Proposal and Document Checklist for reference.
4. Establish collaboration with a company and ensure all required undertakings are signed by authorized signatories from both the company and the host institute.
5. Gather all necessary documents and create digital copies of each.
6. Complete the online application form (please note that the form cannot be downloaded and requires internet connectivity during the filling process).
7. Submit the application online.
