The Free Education Scheme is a helpful initiative by the Government of Tamil Nadu through the Department of Backward Classes and Most Backward Classes and Minority Welfare. It supports BC, MBC, and DNC students who are studying in 3-year degree courses, diploma courses, or professional degree programs. Here is the detailed information about the scholarship scheme.
Eligibility Criteria:
- The students must belong to the BC/MBC/DNC category.
- Candidates should be enrolled in a 3-year degree program, a polytechnic diploma course, or a professional degree course.
- The annual income of the family should not be more than INR 50,000.
- Be a domicile of Tamil Nadu.
Rewards:
The scholarship covers tuition, examination, special, and other mandatory fees up to approximately INR 10,000.
How to Apply:
- Students should apply through their district’s Backward Classes and Minority Welfare Office.
- They need to visit the office in person to begin the application process.
- You must fill out the application manually in offline mode.
- Ensure all the required documents are submitted during the visit.
- We do not accept any online applications. Some Universities or institutions provide application forms in their institutions, and students can submit them with relevant documents.

Documents Required:
The applicants must submit self-attested copies of the following documents while submitting the application.
- Aadhaar card
- Birth certificate
- Domicile certificate
- Income certificate
- Class 12 marksheet
- Community certificate
- Admission order copy
- An identity card from the institution
- A bonafide certificate from the institution
- Fess paid receipt copies
- Scores secured in the entrance examination for college admission.
- The first page of the bank passbook displays the account number and IFSC code clearly.
Selection Criteria
The selection committee will choose candidates based on whether they meet the eligibility criteria. If the number of applications exceeds the available seats, eligible students will be selected based on their Class 12 public exam marks.
Web enabled sanction of scholarship
Sanction and disbursement of scholarships to the college students of Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes, and Denotified Communities is implemented through the web application www.bcmbcscholarship.tn.gov.in. The respective Department Heads directly transfer scholarship amounts to students’ bank accounts via ECS using a centralized payment system.
