NSP Scholarship Renewal: How to Apply Online

Published – October 26, 2026

Already received an NSP scholarship and want to continue it for the next academic year?

NSP Scholarship Renewal allows eligible students to apply for continued scholarship support through the National Scholarship Portal. Students must meet their scheme’s renewal conditions, update the required academic details and submit a renewal application.

Renewal is intended for students who have already received a scholarship under an eligible scheme and wish to continue receiving it during their studies.

Before applying, check these conditions:

  1. Previous scholarship: You must have an eligible application from an earlier academic year.
  2. Continued education: You must meet the course progression requirements of your scholarship.
  3. Academic performance: Your previous examination results must satisfy the scheme’s renewal rules.
  4. Scheme eligibility: Any continuing conditions relating to income, attendance, course or institution must be satisfied where applicable.

Renewal rules are not the same for every scholarship. Check the specific scheme guidelines rather than assuming that all previously selected students qualify automatically.

Students can access fresh and renewal applications through the NSP student login.

Follow these steps for NSP Scholarship Renewal 2026–27:

  • Log in: Under Apply for Scholarship, use your OTR credentials or another available login method.
  • Open your application: Go to My Applications and locate your previous scholarship application or available renewal option.
  • Check renewal eligibility: Confirm that your scholarship scheme permits renewal for the current academic year.
  • Update academic details: Enter the required information about your current class or course year and previous examination results.
  • Upload documents: Provide the documents requested for your renewal application.
  • Review and submit: Check the details carefully and complete Final Submit.

After submission, revisit My Applications to review the application status and respond to any verification-related requests.

Important: One Time Registration (OTR) is mandatory for NSP applications. It is a unique 14-digit registration number intended for use throughout a student’s academic career. Generating an OTR does not itself complete a scholarship application.

Renewal applications generally focus on confirming continued education and academic progress.

Depending on the scholarship scheme, students may need:

Document or detailWhy it may be required
Previous year’s marksheetTo verify academic performance
Current admission or enrolment proofTo confirm continued studies
Updated income certificateIf required under the scheme
Bank and Aadhaar detailsTo support identity and payment verification
Other scheme-specific documentsTo meet additional renewal conditions

Not every scholarship requires all these documents again.

This can happen when an earlier application is associated with a parent’s or guardian’s OTR, but the student now uses an OTR generated with their own Aadhaar.

The NSP FAQ provides a Link Renewal Application option for eligible cases.

To use it:

  • Log in to NSP with your current OTR.
  • Select Link Renewal Application from the navigation menu.
  • Enter the previous renewal application ID.
  • Submit the details and complete the required OTP verification.

Your name, gender and date of birth must match the previous application. Additional conditions apply, including restrictions relating to active merit-based applications.

If the option does not work, check the current NSP student FAQ before making another application.

A few checks before submission can prevent unnecessary delays.

  1. Choosing a fresh application instead of renewal: Confirm the application type when continuing an existing scholarship.
  2. Entering incorrect academic details: Match the information with your official marksheet and college records.
  3. Ignoring scheme-specific conditions: Academic progression and other renewal requirements can vary.
  4. Leaving the form incomplete: Saving information does not mean the renewal application has been finally submitted.
  5. Not checking verification: Follow up with your school or college if the application requires institute-level verification.

If your application is marked defective, NSP allows corrections through the relevant application editing options, subject to the portal’s rules.

1. Do I need a new OTR for NSP scholarship renewal?

Usually, no. OTR is intended to remain valid throughout your academic career. If your earlier application was linked to a parent or guardian’s OTR, the official portal provides a procedure for linking an eligible renewal application to your new OTR.

2. Can I renew my NSP scholarship if I failed an examination?

It depends on the scholarship scheme. Some schemes require students to pass the previous examination or meet specific academic progression rules. Check the guidelines for your scholarship before applying.

3. Can I change my scholarship during renewal?

Renewal continues an eligible existing scholarship. Applying for a different scholarship is a separate process governed by the eligibility rules and NSP’s current restrictions on multiple applications.

4. Is NSP scholarship renewal automatic?

No. Eligible students generally need to submit the required renewal application and complete the applicable verification process.
