Obtaining a PAN card has become more convenient nowadays in India, as individuals can apply for a new PAN online or offline. Additionally, those who have misplaced their PAN card can request a reprint online or obtain an e-PAN through NSDL or UTIITSL. Let’s explore the online and offline process of applying for a PAN card, including the associated fees, required documents like Voter ID, etc, and additional details.
Apply for PAN Card Online:
Applying for an Instant e-PAN through the income tax e-filing portal:
1. Start by visiting the e-Filing portal homepage and locate the “Instant e-PAN” option under Quick Links.
2. Click on “Get New e-PAN” on the e-PAN page.
3. Input your 12-digit Aadhaar number and confirm by checking the provided checkbox. Then, proceed by clicking “Continue”.
4. Agree to the consent terms on the OTP validation page and continue.
5. Enter the 6-digit OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number and validate the Aadhaar details with UIDAI by checking the provided checkbox. Click “Continue” to proceed.
6. On the Validate Aadhaar Details page, confirm your acceptance by checking the provided checkbox and continue.
7. Upon successful submission, a confirmation message with an acknowledgment number will be displayed on the screen. Make sure to note down this Acknowledgement ID for future reference. Additionally, you’ll receive a confirmation message on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
Applying for a PAN online through the Income Tax PAN Services Unit of NSDL:
1. Visit the NSDL site (https://www.onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/endUserRegisterContact.html) to begin your PAN application process.
2. Choose the appropriate Application type – whether it’s for Indian citizens, foreign citizens, or for changes/corrections in existing PAN data.
3. Choose your category from the options provided, which may include individuals, associations of persons, a body of individuals, and others.
4. Fill out the PAN form with all necessary details including name, date of birth, email address, and mobile number.
5. Upon form submission, follow the instructions for the next steps.
6. Proceed to complete the PAN Application Form and submit your digital e-KYC.
7. Indicate whether you require a physical PAN card and provide the last four digits of your Aadhaar number.
8. Enter personal, contact, and other relevant details as required.
9. Input area code, AO Type, and other pertinent details as indicated in the form.
10. Complete the document submission and declaration section.
11. Verify and apply by entering the first 8 digits of your PAN card.
12. Select the e-KYC option and authenticate using Aadhaar OTP.
13. Make the necessary payment through demand draft or online payment methods.
14. Upon successful payment, proceed with Aadhaar authentication by entering your 12-digit Aadhaar number and submitting the OTP received on your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
15. Continue with the e-sign by entering another OTP sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile number.
16. Apply to receive the Acknowledgement slip in PDF format, with your date of birth serving as the password in DDMMYYYY format.
Steps to Apply for a new PAN card online through the UTIITSL website:
1. Start by visiting the UTIITSL PAN card application page and select ‘PAN Card for Indian Citizen/NRI’ under PAN Services.
2. Select the option ‘Apply for New PAN Card (Form 49A)’.
3. Choose between ‘Physical Mode’ or ‘Digital Mode’ based on your preference for submitting the application form.
4. Fill in all the required personal and mandatory details accurately.
5. Verify the correctness of the information provided and click ‘Submit’.
6. Proceed to make the payment online using available payment options such as BillDesk or PayU India. Payment can be made via net banking, debit card, credit card, cash card, etc.
7. Upon successful payment, you will receive a payment confirmation which you can save or print.
8. Affix 2 passport-sized photographs (3.5×2.5 cm) on the printed form and sign in the designated space.
9. Attach copies of your identity, address, and date of birth proof documents along with the completed application form. Submit the documents online or send them to the nearest UTIITSL office for further processing and issuance of your PAN card.
