Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship

Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from poor families to meet a part of their day-to-day expenses while pursuing higher studies.

Eligibility:
  • The applicant must be above the 80th percentile of successful candidates in the relevant stream from the respective Board of Examination in Class 12th of 10+2 pattern or equivalent.
  • Regular degree programs must be enrolled in by applicants, and not distance learning or diploma courses.
  • Applicants must enroll in courses at colleges or institutions recognized by the All India Council for Technical Education and relevant regulatory bodies.
  • The applicant must not be availing the benefit of any other scholarship schemes including State-run scholarship schemes/ fee waivers & reimbursement schemes.
  • The applicant’s parental or family income should not be more than ₹4,50,000 per year.
  • For renewal of scholarship in each year of study, besides getting at least 50% marks in the Annual Examination, maintenance of adequate attendance of at least 75%, will also be the criteria.

Payment of Scholarship:


Students must open their bank accounts, especially in their names, to avail the benefits under the scheme. The scholarship will be directly transferred to the beneficiaries’ savings bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), and students can check their payment status on the PFMS portal’s “Know Your Payment” template using their Aadhaar number, bank account number, or NSP Application ID.

Application Process

  • Only online applications receive the applications. MeitY, Government of India, conducts verification of students’ credentials such as caste, educational qualifications, etc., using the DIGILOCKER facility.
  • National Scholarships Portal (NSP) (www.scholarships.gov.in) will provide the timelines for opening & closing of the portal.
  • The guidelines for applying, verifying, selecting, and disbursing the scholarship will follow the NSP (National Scholarship Portal) regulations.
  • The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) will generate and display a list of selected candidates.
  • Online applications will undergo verification by the student’s institute and then by the respective State Higher Education Department or an appointed State Nodal Agency/Official.
  • Agency (both for fresh and renewal applicants).
  • The NSP will make the latest guidelines on Timelines available.
  • Students won’t face permanent disqualification from scholarships due to renewal or verification delays, but they must submit renewal applications by a specified deadline; missing this deadline will result in the inability to renew for that year.
