The National Institutes of Technology (NITs), established under the Ministry of Education, Government of India, maintain the status of institutions of national importance. They are governed by the National Institutes of Technology, Science Education, and Research Act, 2007. The Act outlines its powers, duties, and governance framework, listing 32 NITs. How to get admission to National Institutes Of Technology through JEE Main
Candidates who wish to get B.Tech. Candidates aspiring to secure admission into their preferred NIT through JEE Main can review the steps below to comprehend the process.
Step1 :
First of all, for NIT admission through JEE Main, the candidates will have to ensure that they meet the required eligibility criteria for NIT admission 2024 as specified by the authorities. If the candidates meet the JEE Main 2024 eligibility criteria, they will only be considered for the NIT admission process. The major NIT admission criteria have been listed below for the reference of the candidates
- The candidate should have passed Class 12 or the qualifying exam within the previous two years from the admission year.
- Those candidates who will be qualifying during the admission year are also eligible
- Candidates should have passed class 12 irrespective of any percentage of marks. Candidates should have obtained a minimum of 75% marks in class 12 or equivalent exam or they must be in the top 20 percentile in their class 12 examination. For SC/ ST, the eligibility is to obtain a minimum of 65% marks in class 12 or equivalent
Step 2 – Get Registered
The application form for JEE Main 2024 will be released in online mode at the official website. To participate in the admission process of NITs, the candidates have to submit the application form of JEE Main before the final date. Candidates can choose to attempt the JEE Main entrance examination once or both times since it is conducted twice a year. It is crucial to note that all details submitted in the application form must be valid.
Step 3 – Entrance Examination
JEE Main is a national-level entrance examination and hence the competition is quite large. For admissions in NITs through JEE Main 2024, the candidates will have to attempt and qualify for the entrance exam.
JEE Main administers a computer-based test where candidates answer questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.
Candidates need to qualify for the test and score minimum marks to get admission to NIT through JEE Main.
Step 4 – Counselling Session
For JEE Main qualified candidates, a common counseling process is conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). During the online counseling process, the candidates should be able to register and select their choice of colleges and courses from the list of NITs. Careful selection is necessary as it will impact their allotment. Therefore, after reviewing the mock allotment, candidates should make the necessary changes to secure the seats they wish to have. Moreover, candidates should meet the cutoff for the NITs they are applying for.
Step 5 – Confirmation of Admission
Finally, if allotted to the National Institutes Of Technology, candidates must confirm their seats. Upon freezing their seat, they need to pay the seat acceptance fee. Reporting centers will conduct document verification to confirm admission.
